Late for International Women’s Day

March 9, 2018

… and lacking even my usual minor attempts at layout and panache, this is my list of the best feminist books I’ve read since last International Women’s Day. Links are to reviews that go some way to talking about why I’ve chosen the books I’ve chosen. Sorry about the rushed post!

Oh I put that Sarah Hall book on display at the library today but I wanted to bring it home but you know I have so many books out already…have only read the trippy Moomins but am willing to give Tove Jansson some adult fiction love, have fond fond memories of discovering Rumer Godden in my precocious teens and am clicking all the links in this post to find out more about everything,
Am reading Elif Batuman’s The Idiot and Ali Smith’s Winter and just finished Mary Gaitskill’s collection of stories Bad Behaviour and was reading Muriel Spark but got an overdue fine and the Muriel Sparks are in demand at the library.

You could maybe just read Mrs Fox online and let the rest of Madame Zero wait til your pile is smaller. The Summer Book is great but I think Fair Play, which I read a few years ago, is even better: I recommend it very highly. We have a Muriel Spark for bookclub next time, so I’d better get on to that too.

Great list! The Summer Book is one of my all time favourites. It was good too hear you at Writers’ Week Jane – lovely session with Catherine McKinnon and Amy Matthews. Looking forward to From the Wreck!

    Hi Jane

Readings is out of copies of Wrong Turn. I have a friend in the US I wanted to give it to when I visit after Easter. It is on order but Not clear if stock is available. Do you know of who else may have some? Conor
